Deer Bay Farms
From Our Farm to Your Table

What's In Season
We will be at the Bobcaygeon Farmers' Market every Saturday from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm up to and including Thanksgiving weekend except for Saturday, September 27th, when there is no Market.
Now in season: new potatoes, zucchini, patty pans, kale, field tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, assorted melons, squash, and apples and peppers (end of August). We also have a selection of our jams, jellies, pickles and relishes made with produce we grow on the farm.
About Us
At Deer Bay Farms, we are committed to sustainable farming practices and grow a variety of fruits and vegetables that aren’t typically produced by other commercial farms in our region. We bought our 100-acre farm, located in the heart of the Kawarthas, in 1983. We started out raising purebred Hereford cattle, but switched to fruit and vegetable production in the late 1990s. Every day, we work to apply sustainable agriculture principles to everything we do, and to grow produce that complements (rather than competes with) the offerings of other local farms. We share our farm with our three cats, along with plenty of deer, raccoons, rabbits, crows, groundhogs and skunks.

Our Produce
We strive to use sustainable farming practices whenever possible. We start our seeds indoors to germinate, then move them out to our small greenhouse, then transplant them, by hand, to the field onto bio-degradable black plastic. The black plastic keeps the weeds down and increases the temperature under the plastic, reducing our use of commercial fertilizers and herbicides. We conserve water by laying down drip irrigation under the plastic, so that we are watering just the plants, not the whole farm.
We take pride in growing a wide variety of unusual, non-GMO fruits and vegetables that you won’t often find at other farms in our area. We grow several varieties of melons, including cantaloupe, watermelon, and Korean melons, along with field tomatoes, 10 varieties of cherry tomatoes, 8 varieties of specialty potatoes, and 6 varieties of apples. We also grow ground cherries, tomatillos, Chinese eggplant, pickling cucumbers, patty pan squash, zucchini, winter squash, white sweet corn, and more. We make a variety of jams, jellies, pickles, relishes, chutneys, and our own home-pressed sweet apple cider, all from produce grown right here on the farm.
